Disability Resource Centre Clydesdale

Welcome

Disability Resource Centre (DRC) Clydesdale has been offering the Clydesdale community a unique service for over 14 years. The group was set up by a local gentleman who found when he required the help and advice to complete benefit forms and claims for disability issues there was nothing available, and noticing that we could not possibly be alone in this quest took measures to rectify this hole in the community.

He approached the Council and with the help of some other like minded community spirited people secured a core fund from South Lanarkshire Council. With the Council core funding this venture it did not mean that the group which was formed was under the running or leadership of any leading body. The group was originally known as DIAL this being a nationwide group set up with the same aims and goals as DRC and it was originally affiliated to this group. This has now ceased and 10 years ago became DRC Clydesdale a registered Scottish charity and a Company limited by guarantee. All the trustees are volunteers and there are no paid staff. The accounts are correctly audited yearly by A Marshall Accountants and yearly accounts submitted to Companies House Edinburgh. DRC hold an AGM yearly and this is an open meeting to which any member of the clydesdale community are invited. The group has a very good relationship with local councillors and MSPs.

As a charity the group relies solely on donations and grants these are mostly from Core funding:

  • South Lanarkshire Council (SLC)
  • Donations from wheelchair loan, form filling advice.
  • Administration charge from transport by volunteer drivers.
  • Grants, applied for as required for new equipment to deliver up-to-date services.

DRC Clydesdale is one of only a few Department of Work and Pension Alternative Offices in Scotland. The status was awarded to the centre after extensive training given and updated by DWP. The status allows the centre to complete and advice clients on DWP matters and have the legal authority to validate birth, marriage, death certificates, bank statements etc normally only validated at official DWP/ Job Centre offices. They can also date stamp officially claim forms for DLA and AA claims. Although this service is carried out by the centre the centre is not paid or claims any grants from DWP for this service, and so is not funded by or answerable to the DWP. The DRC is not a government run office.
